CHANDIGARH: The Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) on Wednesday launched its election campaign titled ‘Mauka’ (chance), seeking a chance from students to elect them for the first ever time in the Panjab University Campus Students’ Council (PUCSC) polls.
The student union followed its parent Bhartiya Janata Party’s (BJP) election tagline from 2014 elections, ‘Ab ki baar Modi sarkar’ in its slogan.
The ABVP’s slogan reads: ‘Sabko mauka baar baar, ABVP ko ab ki baar’ (Others have got a chance again and again, let ABVP be given the opportunity once this time).
The slogan reflected the party’s desperation to be elected at the PU once. Last year, the ABVP had surprised everyone by garnering a large number of votes. However, it had lost the presidential post to the Student for Society (SFS).
While launching the campaign on Wednesday, ABVP leader Harmanjot Gill said the university needed a student council that would not only highlight issues related to the PU, but also national interest of the country.
In its manifesto, the party promised to work on getting more funds for the PU through heritage or central status. It also sought an opportunity to work for getting more faculty and non-teaching staff for the university.
An ABVP member said they were making promises and reminding students that their parent party was in power in the Centre and it was only them who could work for the PU’s development.
